You can start in Delhi and from there go to Jaipur in Rajasthan, which is about five hours away by bus or train. From there you can take a six-hour bus or train to Mathura and Vrindavan, the land of Lord Krishna. From there you can go by train to Lucknow and then to Naimisaranya, where the Srimad Bhagavatam was spoken by Suta Goswami. From Lucknow you then take a four-hour bus to Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama.

From there it is a six-hour bus to Allahabad, where the famous Kumbha-mela is held at the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati Rivers. From Allahabad you can take a five-hour side trip to Chitrakut, where Lord Rama is said to have lived 11 years in exile. Then from Chitrakut you can take an overnight train or a bus (7 hr) to Varanasi.

You can skip going to Chitrakut and from Allahabad you can take a three-hour bus or one of the many trains to Varanasi. From Varanasi you can make a side trip to the famous Buddhist pilgrimage site of Sarnath, which is a half-hour away.
