Jaipur Hotels

You can often get a 25% to 50% discount during the low season between late April and early September.

Bani Park is a quiet residential area in the west section of the city, where several hotels are located. Some of the hotels there are converted large houses.

At the RTDC tourist offices you can arrange a Home Stay in a room at an Indian family’s house. Many hotels have a 10% service charge.

Where to Stay—Lower
The very popular Evergreen Guest House (363-446; fax 371-934), Mumtaz Bagh, Chameliwala Market, is opposite the GPO. Double rooms with bath are Rs 150/200, and rooms with bath and hot water are Rs 250 to Rs 550. Dorm beds are Rs 75. A/C rooms are Rs 550. It has a nice garden and a tiny swimming pool. The new rooms on the first floor are better (ask to see a few rooms). It is usually filled with foreigners. If you are a backpacker and want to meet people, this is the place to come.
Hotel Pink Sun (376-753), near the Evergreen, has fairly boring rooms with bath for Rs 300.
The popular Jaipur Inn (316-821), B-17, Shiv Marg, Bani Park, has a selection of clean rooms ranging from Rs 150/250 up to Rs 450/550. The more expensive rooms have hot water. It also has a good dorm (Rs 85) and camping facility on the lawn (Rs 60). It is popular with foreign travelers and is well-managed. It has a kitchen that guests can cook in. It is a bit impersonal.
The popular Diggi Palace (373-091; fax 370-359), Shivaji Marg, Hospital Rd, is a 200-year-old former minor palace with a huge lawn. It is clean, well-managed, and has a peaceful atmosphere. There is a selection of rooms ranging from Rs 150/200 for a room with common bath, Rs 250/300 with bath, up to Rs 400/500 for an air-cooled room. It is best to look at a few rooms, as some are better than others. You could eat in the nearby Woodlands restaurant.
Swagatam Tourist Bungalow (310-595), near the railway station, has rooms for Rs 200/250 and Rs 350/450 for an air-cooled room. Dorm beds are Rs 50. It is conveniently located if you have an early morning train to catch. It is not too noisy, and it has a good lawn.
The railway Retiring Rooms are Rs 125/200 with bath, and Rs 350 with A/C, and Rs 60 for a dorm bed. Rooms with common bath are Rs 100/150.
Kaiser-I-Hind Hotel (310-195), off Station Rd, near the entrance of the Rajputana Sheraton, is an older, very run-down palace which has rooms with bath for Rs 250/425. Mark Twain, Rockefeller and Mahatma Gandhi are all supposed to have stayed here. It is over-priced.
City Centre Hotel, near Sindi Camp Bus Station, is a good deal.
Marudhara Hotel, D-240 Bani Park, behind the Collectorate, has basic rooms with common bath for Rs 150 and rooms with bath for Rs 200/250.
Pipalda House, nearby, has rooms for Rs 200 with common bath and Rs 350 with bath.
Hotel Sweet Dream (314-409), Nehru Bazaar, in the old city, has rooms with bath for Rs 300/400, with air-cooling for Rs 450/500 and with A/C for 650/700. 24-hour checkout.

Where to Stay—Middle
The popular Arya Niwas (372-456; fax 364-376), just off Sansar Chandra Rd, behind the Amber Cinema, is a recommended place with large, clean rooms with bath for Rs 400/500 to Rs 650/800. It has a small bookshop, a front lawn with chairs, money changing facilities, a parking area, and hot water in the winter. It is a really good place. You should ask to see a few rooms, as some are better than others. Best to reserve in advance. The reasonably priced restaurant has good cheap thalis.
On Banasthli Marg there are several modern mid-range hotels costing around Rs 450 to 700.
Aangam Travellers Home (373-449), 4 Park House Scheme, just off MI Road by Station Road, in a quiet area, has nice rooms with bath and hot water for Rs 275/300 to Rs 600 and with A/C for Rs 650. It is a good, well-managed place.
Right next door is the Atithi Guest House (378-679; fax 379-496), 1 Park House Scheme, off Motilal Atal Rd, which is also good. It has very clean, well-maintained rooms with bath and hot water for Rs 350/400 and Rs 700/800 for a deluxe A/C room. It is well-managed by a nice family.
Karni Niwas (365-433), C-5 Motilal Atal Marg, is a family-run place with rooms with hot water for Rs 400/550 and Rs 650/700 with A/C.
Kailash (565-372), Johari Bazaar, is in the middle of the old city. Rooms with bath are Rs 200/250 to Rs 300/ 400. The rooms are a little small.
RTDC Teej (374-373), Collectorate Rd, Bani Park, is a well-managed, clean government hotel with air-cooled rooms for Rs 300/400 and A/C rooms for Rs 450/500. Dorm beds are Rs 50.
Hotel Mangal (75126), Sansar Chandra Rd, off the main road near the bus stand, is a good place with rooms with TV for Rs 400/450 and rooms with A/C for Rs 700/750. It has a vegetarian restaurant, health club, and sauna. 24-hour checkout.
RTDC Ganguar Tourist Bungalow (371-641), just off Sansar Chandra Rd, has comfortable rooms with bath and hot water for Rs 400/550 and Rs 700/800 with A/C. It has a nice lawn and is a pretty good value.
Madhuban Hotel (200-033; fax 202-344), D-237 Behari Marg, Bani Park, is a family run place with rooms for Rs 350/400 and Rs 400/550 for a large room. It is a good value and it has a nice lawn and garden. This is a good place to stay.
Nana-ki-Haveli (603-602), Fateh Tiba, Moti Duneri Rd, has rooms for Rs 1000.
Nearby, Shapura House (312-293), D-257 Devi Marg, Bani Park, has rooms with air-cooling for Rs 600/650 and with A/C for Rs 700/800. They arrange camel safaris.
The well-managed Hotel Megh Niwas (322-661), Bani Park, is a very good place with rooms for Rs 600/700 and Rs 700/800 with A/C. It has a nice garden and a pool.

Where to Stay—Higher

LMB, (565-844; fax 562-176), Johari Bazaar, costs Rs 1075/1475 for a standard double room and Rs 1775 for a luxury room. The rooms in the front are better than those in the back, so ask to see the rooms before you take one. The best thing about this place is its excellent restaurant. It is well located in the Old City—close to the palace, the temples, and the shopping areas.
Maharani Palace (204-702), Station Rd, near the bus station, has good double rooms for Rs 1900 and deluxe rooms for Rs 2400.
Khasa Kothi (375-151; fax 374-040), south of the junction of MI Rd and Station Rd, was a former minor palace. It has a pool and comfortable large rooms for Rs 800/900 to Rs 1800. It has a big lawn and gardens.
Hotel Bissau Palace (304-391; fax 304-628), outside Chand Pole Gate, dates from the 1920s and has a nice atmosphere, with comfortable rooms for Rs 1300/1450 and Rs 1600/1750 with A/C. The rooms vary, so you should see the rooms before choosing one. It has a pool, tennis court, a good bookshop and a good restaurant. The lobby is a bit like a museum. They can arrange for you to stay at their country place, The Retreat, 27 km east of Jaipur.
Narain Niwas Palace Hotel (561-291; fax 561-045) is a former palace with rooms with A/C for Rs 1290/1850. It is in a quiet location, has big gardens and a pool. The big rooms have classic antique furniture.
Samode Haveli (540-370; fax 602-370), in a quiet location in northeast Jaipur, is a really nice place with rooms for Rs 1500/1800 and Rs 2500 for a suite. It is the 200-year-old house of the former Prime Minister of Jaipur, the Rawal of Samode. It has a nice patio area and a remarkably painted dining room. Popular with foreign tourist. It has a few impressive suites covered with mirrors. There is a good view of the sunset from the garden. Best to reserve in advance.
Hotel Meru Palace (371-111; 563-767), Sawai Ram Singh Road, has modern rooms with TV and hot water for Rs 1500/1800. It is not such a good value. It has the first-class South Indian style restaurant, Woodlands.
Chokhi Dhani (580-118; fax 381-888), Tonk Rd, 20km from Jaipur, has rooms in a haveli for Rs 2100 or a room in a mud hut with traditional furniture for Rs 2300. It is in a traditional village complex.
Royal Kanota Castle (563-448), 14km from Jaipur, is an interesting fortified palace with antique furniture and a nice garden. It has a weapon museum and a library with rare books. It can be reserved at the Narain Niwas Palace in Jaipur.

Where to Stay—Luxury
Rambagh Palace (381-919; fax 381-098), in the south section of the city, is one of the nicest places anywhere in the world. It formerly belonged to the Maharaja of Jaipur and is a very prestigious and superb place with a fountain garden, tennis courts and an indoor pool. Because it is such a good place to stay, most of the time it is totally full. So it is best to reserve a room in advance. The cheapest room is $155/175 and the most expensive Royal Suite will run up to $625. If you can afford it, the suites are worth the price. If you stay in no other luxury place in India, this along with the Lake Palace Hotel in Udaipur are the places to stay. Ask to see a few rooms, as they are different and some are not as good. Rooms overlooking the garden are best.
Jai Mahal Palace (371-616; fax 365-237), corner of Ajmer Marg and Jacob Rd, south of the railway station, used to belong to the Maharaja of Jaipur. It has rooms for $175/220 to $500 for a luxury suite. It has a majestic atmosphere, a pool and gardens. This and the Rambagh Palace are the two most luxurious places in town.
Rajmahal Palace (381-757; fax 381-887), on Sardar Patel Marg, belonged to a former British ruler. It has opulent rooms for $100/125 and $350 for a suite. They offer a 25% discount in the off-season. It has a pool and a nice garden.
Mansingh Hotel (378-771; 377-582), off Sansar Chandra Rd, is a modern place close to town center. It has opulent rooms for $100/110. It has a pool and health club.
Hotel Clarks Amer (550-616; fax 550-013), Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, 10 km from center city, has rooms for $120/130.
Jaipur Ashok (204-491; fax 3202-099), Bani Park, has a pool and comfortable modern rooms for Rs 1600/2600. Non-guests can use the pool for Rs 150.
Oberoi Trident (630-101), just north of town, has luxury rooms for Rs 3700/4000.
Holiday Inn (609-000; fax 609-090), on the road between downtown and the Amber Fort, has comfortable rooms for $50/85. It is well-managed, but not well located.
Rajputana Sheraton (360-011; fax 367-848), Palace Rd, near the railway station, is a well-designed, deluxe, modern hotel built around a swimming pool. Rooms are $175/200. It has a health club and two good restaurants. It can be reserved in the US.
Oberoi Raj Vilas (640-101; fax 640-202; email reservations@rajvilas.com), 8km from town, is an opulent well-designed place with rooms for $275/300 up to $1100.
