Getting an Indian Visa

To get to the Indian Embassy from Thamel you walk pass the immigration office and turn left at the next street, at the circle. You walk 15 minutes, bearing to your right at the Y intersection. At the Hotel Ambassador you take the road the bears to your left and walk five minutes to the end of the road.

Be fore-warned that there will be a good chance if you are trying to get another six-month visa (you already had one) to India; there is a good chance that you will be turned down. If you have a flight departing from India, you will routinely be issued a 15-day visa to get your flight. I had been told by several people that with the help of a travel agent and some cash you can get a visa to India. Ask some travelers how to go about this. An Israeli is a good choice. You are more likely to get another visa if you arrived two or three months to India after the visa was visa. Your argument is that you did not know that you were using up on your visa.
You first report to the visa office between 9.30 am and 11 am and you then fill out a form so you can get a clearance from the visa office in your own country, which cost around Rs 300. When a fax is returned clearing you, you can be issued a visa.

This usually takes three days to a week for a response to get back. My response came back in three days and someone else I know response did not come back after ten days and they were issued a visa without the response. You then pay the visa fee of around Rs 1000 depending on what country you are from. USA citizen pay an extra Rs 1000.
If you are staying in Nepal for a month or two and plan to stay in India for six months you should know that the visa to India begins when it is issued to you, therefore if you got you visa in London and then flew to Thailand for two month, stayed in Nepal for two month and then go to India, at that time there is only two months left on your visa.

Many people that I talked to have experienced this problem. This is a good reason to get your Indian visa in Kathmandu and not in your home country. If you have a flight scheduled out of India and a six-month visa is rejected, you will most likely be given a 15-day transit visa to enable you to get your flight.

The more respectably you are dressed and act, your politeness, and persistence can make a different in getting a visa extension. Don’t give up easy, but don’t even think to get angry. Remember that the people working in the visa office are very well educated and expect to be treated with respect.
