Kathmandu Weather

January is the coldest month in Kathmandu during which it can go to a low of 3º C (38º F) and a high of 18º C (65º F). During the day in December and January it is not too cold, but you do need heat in your room at night, as the temperature approaches freezing. In the winter you definitely need warm cloths from the end of November till the end of February. The sky is clear in December and January most of the day, but there may be an early morning fog that lasts until mid-morning. It does not snow in the Kathmandu valley because December and January are the driest months and also it does not usually go below freezing. The average temperature in January is 10ºC.

The weather is good in February, March and April, but visibility is not very good, although there are quite a few clear days. You can not usually see the mountains at this time. April is the hottest month with a high of about 30º C (86º F). In May and June it gets quite hot with the temperatures in the day in the mid-30ºC and around 20ºC at night.
The weather is best during the months of October and November. It is not too hot, there is no rain, and the sky is clear, so you can get a good view of the mountains. This is the when the most tourist visit.

The rainy season is from the end of June till the beginning of September. During the rainy season it does not usually rain all day, but just an hour or two at a time, usually at night. The weather is not bad from Mid-June to September, but it is cloudy most of the time. It rains the most in July.
