Clothing for Nepal Treks What clothes that will be needed will depend on the time of the year trekking and the elevation that will be trekked at. You should bring lightweight clothes and be prepared for both hot and cold weather. On a long trek you may pass through both subtropical and freezing weather. You also should have rain gear or an umbrella. If you are doing a low-altitude trek in the summer or
fall, most likely you will just need a T-shirt and a sweater or light
jacket for at night. If you are doing the Everest base camp trek in
the winter, you will need a good sleeping bag, wool mittens or ski
gloves, thermal underwear, sweat pants, a wool hat, and down clothing.
Down jackets can be rented in Kathmandu, but may not be so clean. For most treks sneakers (running shoes) are sufficient (below 3000m), but they do not have ankle support. For higher elevations and more strenuous treks boots may be essential. Also boot will keep your feet dry if it rains. You should have a good amount of socks, and it is a good idea to wear two pair while walking. It is important that your shoes are well worn in and are comfortable. Sport sandals may be good for lower elevations. Boots can be purchased new in Kathmandu for Rs 2000 to Rs 4000. You should have a good amount of socks, and it is a good idea to wear two pair while walking and you will have to change them often. Cotton and warm woolen one. In warm area women should wear calf length skirts or pants. Shorts are best avoided. It is best that men always wear a shirt. In Nepal wearing shorts (even for men) is considered low class, so it is best not to wear them if possible If you know of information that is not listed here, or if you would like to help update our listings, please e-mail us at:
