Search Engines

The search engines and directories seems to change at a fairly hectic pace. Many of the major search engine (worth hundreds of millions of dollars) three years ago do not exist any more. Some of the search engines that I saw listed as recommended major search engine when I typed in their web address I was directed to a page where they were selling the web sites URL name for $600.

I would say that they main search engine to be listed in is Google, because you can be listed for free and also because many of the major directories and news site such as Yahoo (which may change soon) and use them to search the Web. From my experience about half the people coming to my site from search engines over 75% are coming from Google and Yahoo. The point is that Google and Yahoo are worth more than all the other search engines and directories put together.

Many of the searches now on the search engines can be slanted because many of the search engines charge to submit to them. So if a site in generally information to submit to all the search engines can cost over $1,000. So really only commercial site can afford to submit to many of the sites.

At the present time this may not harm the present information that you can get on the Internet because charging is something that started about two years ago. Much of the information that you find on search engines is dated, because it was submitted for free before sites started to charge. For instance in the past you could submit to Yahoo for free, now they charge $300 a year to be listed in their directories. Non-profit can still submit for free. So it has to be really hard to get general information. Practically all the new information submitted on the Internet will be purely commercial.

In the past there were huge amounts of money being invested into the Internet. Now investers realize that there can not be a return on many of their investment in the Internet, so site have to survive on advertising or charging people to submit to their site. So unless sites charge web sites for submissions they will not be able to survive, as the large amount of now bankrupt search engines can attest to.

For instant I submitted one of my sites, which is on India to the Southeast Asia guide. I also submitted another one of my sites on Vegetarian Restaurant to the vegetarian food guide.
Aeiwi (www.aeiwi.com) – Submit site URL. On your first page you must have a title, discription and meta keywords in the header of the page.
Aesop (www.aesop.com) – Submit URL name and they come and search your page, but for them to see the site you have to put a meta name in the header of your page such as <meta name=aesop content=information>.
